Travel Hack No 3 – Book Flights Midweek and Midday

After looking at how to save some money and how to not get lost while you travel, I want to look in this travel hack into when best to fly. But I don’t mean here when to book (6-8 weeks tend to be a sweet spot), but rather which day to fly.

The question about when to book, is very difficult to answer and I will address it in one of the upcoming travel hacks. On the other side, the question on which day of the week to travel is much easier: Tuesday and Wednesday. These days are less popular with Business travellers and Leisure travellers alike. Hence, airlines offer those flights at a discount. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays are popular with Business travellers. Saturdays and Sundays are popular with Leisure travellers, to save on precious vacation days. One thing you should keep in mind: avoid travelling on public holidays (Easter, 1st of May, Thanksgiving, or Christmas), as those again are popular with Leisure travellers, especially with bridge-days in mind. Now a little tip I use all the time: flying on the 24th, 25th or 31st of December can be super cheap.

Another way to safe while planning your trip is to look at the time you want to travel. Here again there are times that are better for budget travellers. Business travellers and Leisure travellers prefer the early morning or early afternoon hours. Hence, travelling at noon, early afternoon or around midnight are great to get an additional discount.
